According to Eurostat data and Bioenergy Europe, in 2018, bioenergy can meet the energy needs of European countries (EU-28 and other four countries). The UK is the latest EU member country to celebrate the National Bioenergy Day of 2018. According to the statistics of Eurostat and Bioenergy Europe of the European Biomass Energy Association, from the perspective of final energy use, the United Kingdom can use only biomass energy for 19 days (from December 12 to the end of the year).
Bioenergy is the largest renewable energy source in the European Union, providing more energy than hydropower, wind, solar and geothermal energy. According to Eurostat data and the European Biomass Energy Association, by 2018, bioenergy will account for 12% of the EU's final energy supply, while all other renewable energy sources will reach 7%.
However, 81% of the EU's energy comes from non-renewable energy sources, mainly fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. For the entire EU, the 2018 European Bioenergy Day is November 19th, as the entire EU's biomass energy accounts for 43 days of the 365-day energy supply.
According to Bioenergy Europe, the UK is the latest EU member to celebrate National Biomass Energy Day, formerly: Sweden (37%), Finland (34%), Latvia (32%), Estonia (28%), Denmark ( 27%), Lithuania, Austria, Croatia, Portugal, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, Germany, Slovakia, France, Belgium, Greece and Spain ushered in their National Biomass Energy Day.
The European Bioenergy Day is supported by Bioenergy Europe and disseminated in Europe by relevant national and international partners. Supporting bioenergy is not just a belief in renewable energy, but a reliable path which leads Europe to achieve its renewable energy transformation in the shortest possible time.
